Early Dismissal Policy

III. Early Dismissal:

Parents/Guardians are urged to have their son/daughter remain in school for the entire day. Doctor and other appointments should be scheduled after school whenever possible.
In the event a student must be dismissed early, the following procedures must be adhered to in order to maintain the safety and security of the student:
a. Students who become sick during the school day must report to the school nurse. If the nurse deems it necessary for the student to go home, he/she will call the parent/guardian to discuss the student’s health issues and to arrange for pickup. Should a parent come to pick up their child when he or she is sick and the call was not generated from the school nurse (absent a
pre-scheduled/approved event), the student will be issued a detention for “cell phone usage”. This will require the student to serve detention and pay a $25 fine, as per the Student/Parent Handbook. Knowing who is expected during the school day is an essential component of school safety/security.
b. A parent/guardian must personally sign a student out. If a parent/guardian is unable to sign the student out, only those people designated as emergency contacts that are on file with the school may sign the student out.
c. Students who need to leave early due to a scheduled doctor’s appointment, must submit a note/email to the attendance office PRIOR to the date of the early dismissal and submit a doctor’s note upon return to school. Failure to do so may result in disciplinary action.
d. Absent an emergency, any parent who wishes to pick up their child early from school, prior to the scheduled dismissal time, should submit an email to the Dean of Students no later than 9 am. The email should include a general reason as to why the student is leaving early and the intended pickup time. Please become familiar with your child’s academic schedule and only schedule a pick-up at the change of classes or during a non-academic period (lunch, gym, study period) in order to limit disruptions. Early dismissals are logged in the student’s permanent attendance record and recorded on report cards.
e. Barring an extreme emergency, we will no longer allow any student to be dismissed after 1:30 pm, without prior written notification to the attendance office
(absencenote@moorechs.org). This notification should be made no later than 9am.
f. Under no circumstances will any student leave school (Early Dismissal), without being signed out as stated in “b” above. Failure to leave school without following proper procedure will be considered truancy.
g. If a student leaves school early due to illness, he/she may not participate in any after school activity or school sponsored activity for the remainder of the day.
h. Classes missed due to early dismissal are considered absences for that class and may incur academic consequences, including failing for the marking period.
